Ketamine infusion therapy is safe when administered by trained professionals in a clinical setting, with careful dosing, monitoring, and patient assessment. Side effects are usually short-lived but can vary between individuals. Evaluation is essential for patients with specific medical or psychiatric conditions. Safety depends on proper administration and assessment. Self-administration outside of a clinical setting is dangerous and can lead to serious consequences, including addiction and long-term harm. We uphold the highest safety standards in our practice and adhere to ethics and standards set by American Society of Ketamine Physicians, Psychotherapists & Practitioners. Ketamine infusion therapy should be approached with caution and under the guidance of a healthcare provider. Contraindications include allergies to ketamine, uncontrolled high blood pressure, severe heart conditions, significant liver or kidney disease, a history of severe psychotic disorders, active substance abuse, certain medications, pregnancy or breastfeeding, acute physical illness, and a history of ketamine abuse. Individuals considering ketamine therapy should undergo a thorough medical evaluation and consult with a healthcare provider to determine if it's safe and appropriate for their specific situation.

Ketamine, when used as prescribed in medical settings, has a low potential for addiction. It is classified as a Schedule III controlled substance due to the potential for abuse, but the risk is relatively low compared to many other substances. Ketamine's addictive properties are more likely to manifest when used recreationally in higher doses or in a non-medical context. Individuals with a history of substance abuse may be at a slightly higher risk. However, under the supervision of qualified healthcare professionals in a controlled clinical setting, where doses are carefully monitored, the risk of addiction is minimal. Patients should always follow prescribed treatment guidelines to mitigate any potential risks

At this time, the majority of insurance companies do not pay for ketamine infusion treatments. Some insurance companies cover ketamine infusion therapy on occasion. We are happy to provide a superbill you can use for reimbursement.

Although there is not a consensus of opinion on this matter amongst health care providers, subanesthetic dosing is considered less than 0.8-1mg/kg over 40 minutes to one hour.  This is compared to anesthetic dosing of ketamine which is typically begin at 2mg/kg.
